Despite the current climate, BAME (Black, Asian, Minority, Ethnic) representation in the leading positions of UK workplaces remain stubbornly low. One in eight of the working age population are BAME background, and yet just one in sixteen top management positions in the UK is held by somebody from an ethnic minority background. Improving the employment rate and workplace progression for people from ethnic minorities could contribute £24 billion per year to the UK’s gross domestic product, making the business case for diversity in the workplace unavoidable. With organisations being pushed to publish their ethnicity pay gap data, it is time to start addressing the disparities that exist in our workplaces.
The conference offers practical advice on removing the barriers that are preventing BAME representation in the workplace. We will explore how best to recruit and promote a more representative workforce, and how to encourage a positive culture change at all levels of your place of work.
