Changes to Road Signage: One Year On

Confirmed to speak:

  • Heather Ward, Honorary Senior Research Associate, UCL
  • Dave Johnson, Highways Manager, TfL
  • Simon Morgan, Chair, IHE Traffic Signs Panel
  • Further speakers TBC

Context:

Changes to road signs came into force last year, through the Traffic Signs Regulations & General Directions 2016. New powers include giving councils the ability to remove road signs that are an eyesore and distract drivers.

Join Westminster Briefing in October to explore what affect these changes have had so far and future developments. You will hear about how local authorities can take advantage of efficiencies such as simpler sign rules, and learn from best practice currently underway across the country.

Key issues to be addressed:

  • One Year On: Comprehensive update of Traffic Signs Regulations & General Directions 2016
  • New powers for local authorities and how they can best be used
  • De-cluttering our roads: Ensuring temporary road signs have a ‘remove by’ date
  • Understanding when local authorities need to light signage
  • TSRGD2016 and the key link between road signs and road safety
  • Efficient use of TSRGD2016: Learning from successful local implementation
  • Improving public awareness of new road signs and markings

Who should attend?

Delegates will be drawn from across the signage and street furniture areas particularly: traffic engineers, traffic & road safety managers, transport officers, senior managers and elected members from local authorities as well as signage, engineering and consultancy firms.

The event:

The morning session will examine changes to the policy and regulations and consider how these might affect your work so you can continue to get things right in your setting.

During the afternoon's best practice session we will explore how you can best take advantage of the increased freedom to tailor signage to your setting and save money.

CPD:

The event is CPD certified, and a certificate is available confirming your attendance.
