It has been nearly 18 months since the Government first published its Work, Health & Disability Green Paper. Good employers proactively try to avoid discriminating against disabled people, recognise the organisational benefits of a diverse workforce and attempt to reflect the communities in which they operate. What progress has been made and what more needs to be done to ensure equality in the workplace?

Join Westminster Briefing on 20 June for an up to date brief on the latest developments in supporting disabled people in the workplace.

Key issues to be addressed include:

  • Progress made since The Work, Health & Disability Green Paper
  • Legal requirements during recruitment, performance management & management of sickness absence
  • Ensuring staff are aware of their rights
  • Engaging with people when advertising opportunities
  • Conducting interviews in a fair and supportive manner
  • Understanding unconscious bias and avoiding panels recruiting in their own image
  • Creating supportive workplace cultures & the role of networks and champions
  • Enabling workers to feel more confident in making their employers aware of their condition
  • Helping with extra costs that some disabled people face in work
  • Reasonable adjustments and when should they should be made

The issues will be divided in sessions entitled:

  • Policy & Legal Context: Government Actions, Reasonable Adjustments & Employment Law
  • Recruiting People with a Disability or Health Condition
  • Retaining People with a Disability or Health Condition
