Content:

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) has launched a new safeguarding strategy to increase awareness of potential risk to vulnerable adults, encourage a working culture which puts the user first and promote its role as a central safeguarding partner in protecting individuals from potential abuse. With the number of people registering lasting powers of attorney, especially for property and financial affairs, having more than tripled in the past five years, it is essential that legal entities and safeguarding partners work collaboratively to minimise the risk of exploitation to adults who lack mental capacity or are under pressure to hand over financial control under coercion.

Join us this October to hear from Nick Goodwin, the new Public Guardian for England and Wales, and from the OPG on its new safeguarding strategy and how it plans to support legal practitioners in protecting adults at risk. This event will provide a platform to share ideas, discuss best practice and have your questions on the new strategy answered by OPG's top safeguarding partners.

Key issues to be addressed include:

  • Introducing the new Public Guardian for England and Wales
  • Exploring the Office of the Public Guardian’s Safeguarding Strategy
  • How to offer better protection adults at risk when dealing with LPAs, EPAs and deputy court orders
  • Looking towards a fully digital POA: lessons learned so far
  • Answering frequently asked questions from clients

The event:

The morning session will introduce the new public guardian for England and Wales and review collaborative working within the new safeguarding strategy.

The afternoon session will build on this, focusing on what best practice tips legal practitioners should be implementing when working with adults at risk and understanding the issue from the client's perspective.

Morning refreshments will be served upon arrival with a networking lunch to follow. Any special needs or dietary requirements should be notified to us upon booking. Delegates will have the opportunity to engage with our panel of experts throughout the day.

Who should attend?

Legal practitioners who work with wills, probate, mental capacity act 2005, the elderly, financial planning, advance decisions and court of protection.
